PARIS: Crowd trouble caused the first Olympic football match to be suspended for almost two hours amid chaos and fear. The match was eventually completed in an empty stadium.
Morocco had taken a 2-0 lead over Argentina, who had managed to score a goal and continued to press for an equalizer. In the 16th minute of what should have been 15 minutes of stoppage time in the second half, Cristian Medina appeared to have levelled the score at 2-2.
Following further crowd trouble, the match resumed after a lengthy delay with the stands empty. VAR ruled out Argentina’s equalizer, and Morocco emerged with a controversial 2-1 win.
